Corbinton Walnut – Why we core bowls

ENORMOUS CAULDRON  #526        Black Walnut  19-7/8”d x 7-5/8”h

This beautiful piece of walnut was salvaged from the “Corbinton Commons” site on Hwy 70 northeast of Hillsborough.  The site was clearcut in September 2007 to make way for a not-yet built retirement community.  At the time, we did not have the bowl-saving (coring) capability, so the entire middle of the bowl suffered the fate of being turned into composted wood shavings!

This was the next set of bowls from the Corbinton walnut that we were able to turn with the help of our new coring tool.
